Identity Resistance

The discomfort produced when behaviour contradicts an established self-image; a signal of change in progress, not of failure.

Identity resistance is the brain defending the consistency of an existing identity. Acting against that identity registers as a mismatch, and the mind generates discomfort to pull you back into line.

The book stresses reading this resistance correctly: it's the sensation of an old identity losing its grip, and misreading it as failure is what stops most people.
